Job Description

SUMMARY

Under the general clinical supervision of the Manager of the Communication Disorders Department and the Clinical Director of the assigned Clinical Program independently provides Speech-Language and Communication Evaluations and/or therapy to children and adolescents and consultation and in-service training to Clinical Program staff. May practice autonomously in the areas privileged for autonomous practice including supervision of high school students undergraduate trainees and graduate interns. Follows guidelines policies and procedures and meets responsibilities as a staff member of the Communication Disorders Department and assigned Clinical Program. Assists Associate Director of Bradley School East Providence in assigning clinical cases and educating multidisciplinary trainees. Supervises Clinical Fellows at the request of the Associate Director and the Manager of the Communication Disorders Department.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides Speech-Language and Communication Evaluations according to ASHA Communication Disorders Department and Program standards and makes referrals for further evaluation when appropriate.
  • Develops and implements appropriate treatment goals and objectives for verbal students/patients with emotional or behavioral disorders and/or developmental disorders and/or students/patients who are nonspeaking.
  • Participates actively in diagnostic conferences treatment team meetings IEPs and other relevant meetings for students/patients served.
  • Collaborates with teachers parents and other relevant caregivers.
  • Provides in-service training to Program staff as needed or at the request of the Program Director.
  • Documents student*s progress in treatment according to Program standards.
  • Maintains professional competence and development by attending three conferences/year and Communication Disorders Department sponsored training opportunities.
  • Provides education to trainees according to ASHA Communication Disorders Department Lifespan and Program standards.
  • Actively engages in hospital-wide and/or community liaison activities of the Communication Disorders Department and/or Program served.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Master*s Degree (M.S. or M.A.) in Speech and Language Pathology with certification by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (CCC-SLP)
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure by the State of Rhode Island Department of Health
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span with consideration of aging processes human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.

EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum three years of work experience including CFY.
  • Educational and/or clinical experience with children and/or adolescents with communication disorders and/or developmental disorders and/or emotional/behavioral disorders.
  • Preferred: Minimum three years of full time employment in Bradley School Program at Bradley Hospital.


WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Work performed in a typical office environment.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

High school students bachelor*s level trainees or graduate student interns or ASHA Clinical Fellows within the Bradley School.
