Summary:

SUMMARY:

The Support Services Supervisor executes company programs and procedures by training supervising and motivating the personnel to ensure all tasks are completed schedules are met as well as ensuring adherence to all Miriam Hospital & Lifespan Policies and Procedures. Support Services includes Facilities Environmental Services Patient Transport and Laundry.

Works through subordinate personnel manages and coordinates skilled tradesmen in the maintenance repair and renovation of hospital buildings equipment machinery or systems. Plans organizes directs and controls work activity of the facilities management department as prescribed by professional standards; recommends and revises work procedures to meet hospital needs.

Reports to the Support Services Manager.

Responsibilities:

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Evaluates employee performance standards annually in a timely manner.

Continuously reviews councils and advises staff members performance including attendance work quality and takes corrective actions as needed.

Conducts disciplinary action with the approval of the Support Services Manager and/or Director including warning preparations counselling coaching and issuance on a timely basis.

Conducts training session with ESD personnel regularly as assigned.

Monitors and inspects all ESD equipment regularly to ensure it is maintained in a clean condition and in good repair. Recommends equipment repair as needed.

Consistently completes appropriate forms record keeping including but not limited to: room inspections satisfaction surveys individual training records and competencies.

Evaluates staff fitness for duty use of proper uniform and picture ID*s.

Consistently makes rounds throughout the hospital to observe quality standards of work safety practices Infection Control practices and use of proper body mechanics.

Participates in setting priorities and planning of all project work floor and carpet care.

Submit all repair issues in the work order system in a timely manner and follows up to completion.

Consistently applies the corporate values of respect honesty and fairness and the constant pursuit of excellence in improving the health status of the people of the region through the provision of customer-friendly geographically accessible and high-value services within the environment of a comprehensive integrated academic health system. Is responsible for knowing and acting in accordance with the principles of the Lifespan Corporate Compliance Program and Code of Conduct.

Conducts periodic individual and/or group meetings.

Prepares staffing schedule and provides back up staff when needed. Provides and maintains subordinate staff development plans. Develops standards for subordinate staff performance.

Plans organizes and coordinates the daily operation of the environmental services department for assigned areas to ensure adherence to establish quality standards. Participates in developing departmental policies and procedures.

Participates in developing goals objectives and organizational structure with department site manager. Recommends changes to department structure and procedures as appropriate.

Communicate with supervisors from other departments to answer questions and resolve problems that may arise.

Other related duties as required including but not limited to Aide Project Worker and Supply Coordinator.

Supervises the operation and maintenance of the hospital*s buildings and infrastructure including the plumbing heating refrigeration electrical and emergency generator systems.

Serves as the liaison between the Facilities Management Department and hospital staff identifying and resolving current and potential maintenance problems.

Identifies staff development and training needs and ensures that training is obtained.

Ensures conditions of employment are maintained.

Trains employees in job skills work regulations use of equipment and safety practices.

Evaluates and verifies employee performance through the review of completed work assignments and work techniques.

Coordinates activities by scheduling work assignments setting priorities and directing the work of subordinate employees.

Sets job priorities within established goals and objectives modifying as needed in the event of an emergency situation.

Assigns work and monitors performance to ensure workmanship meets specifications and standards.

Recommends directs and enforces management policies and procedures to ensure harmonious employee relations.

Implements maintenance emergency action operating plans and schedules; coordinates and directs department personnel in emergency situations.

Conducts regular inspections of buildings equipment and systems to see that maintenance safety regulations are met and efficient operation maintained initiating action or scheduling work to correct deficiencies.

Monitors environmental controls for conformity with statutory and regulatory requirements.

Initiates purchase orders for supplies replacement parts and equipment.

Matches budget equipment supplies and human resources with needs; sets daily work priorities within the building management program.

Maintains records prepares reports and composes correspondence relative to the work.

Inspects and evaluates facility construction and renovation projects.

Inspects and maintains Environment of Care in compliance with applicable building health safety fire and environmental codes and regulations; initiates required corrective action.

Provides input into the development of long-range budget and planning information.

Performs all duties in a safe and professional manner and in accordance with the established Miriam Hospital and Support Services Management Department policy and the Fleet Risk Control Policy and Procedures.

Other information:

BASIC KNOWLEDGE:

The level of knowledge of Facilities Maintenance and Environmental Services methods techniques products and equipment required. Associate degree preferred or experience equivalent.

Must have a good driving record meet and maintain the appropriate and valid driver license.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

1. Minimum of three (3) years demonstrated successful supervisory experience.

2. Minimum of three (3) years of environmental services experience.

3. Minimum of eight (5) year*s progressively responsible facility maintenance experience.

4. Interpersonal skills to effectively interact with departments and discussing needs resolving problems and complaints to coordinate and direct activities of small group of service personnel.

5. Experience in establishment of comprehensive preventative maintenance programs.

6. Demonstrated knowledge and skills in the following disciplines: architectural plumbing electrical HVAC and ESD operations.

7. Demonstrated ability to organize workload attention to detail and work independently.

8. Demonstrated knowledge of personal computer software applications in a business environment including Microsoft Office.

9. Ability to respond to hospital facility emergency issues as required 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

10. Joint Commission survey experience and knowledge of activities necessary to produce a state of readiness.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Works in office setting (sit stand and walk) with frequent walking to other areas of hospital to visit work sites. Some exposure to dust dirt noise and power tools when visiting work sites or when providing guidance to subordinates. Exposure to environment or otherwise hazardous conditions such as steam lines electrical lines and areas under construction. Hazards are minimized by adherence to established safety precautions.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

Supervision of up to 30 full-time equivalent trades personnel performing a variety of work ranging from routine to complex.
