Receive, accession, process, embed, cut, stain, mount and label surgical specimens for examination by the pathologist.

Responsibilities
- 1. Technical Duties
- 1.1 Prepares gross surgical specimens for Pathology Assistant or Pathologist.
- 2. Other duties
- 2.1 Maintains accurate records of incoming and outgoing specimens and slides.
- 3. Quality
- 3.1 Investigates and documents problems with unacceptable specimens.
- 4. Problem solving
- 4.1 Follows established quidelines for troubleshooting instrument, reagent or specimen problems.
- 5. Regulation Compliance
- 5.1 Complies with established laboratory and hospital policies for universal precautions and safety.
- 6. People
- 6.1 Participates in staff meetings, helps promote effective working relationships.
- 7. Customer Service
- 7.1 Uses Patient/Family center values/Conducts all work activities with respect to the rights and wishes of patients, visitors and patients families.
Qualifications
EDUCATION
Baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college/university with a combination of 30 semester hours (45 quarter hours) of biology and chemistry (must include credit hours in both), AND successful completion of a NAACLS accredited Histotechnician or Histotechnology program within the last five years. Completion of NAACLS accredited program waived with current HTL(ASCP) certification.OR Baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college/university with a combination of 30 semester hours (45 quarter hours) of biology and chemistry (must include credit hours in both), AND one year full time acceptable experience in a histopathology laboratory.
EXPERIENCE
Three years of Histology experience preferred.
LICENSURE
ASCP certification preferred.
