Description

VICE PRESIDENT OF FINANCE AND ADMINISTRATION

FULL TIME EXEMPT

General Summary: The VP of Finance and Administration is responsible for all financial matters and oversight of the following departments: Human Resources, Information Technology, Maintenance and Front Desks. The VP will report to and work closely with the President/CEO, senior leadership, and the Board of Directors to develop and implement strategies across Thrive. The VP will oversee all compliance for government and other contracts and private grants. They must be able to adapt to a continually evolving environment and thrive in an autonomous and deadline-oriented workplace.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Oversee cash flow planning and ensure availability of funds as needed;
  • Oversee financing strategies and activities, as well as banking relationships;
  • Develop and monitor policies and procedures within generally accepted accounting principles to ensure sufficient cash flow, by minimizing operating costs and maximizing revenues;
  • Participate in corporate policy development as a member of the senior management team;
  • Engage the finance committee of the board of directors to develop short, medium, and long terms financial plans and projections;
  • Remain up to date on nonprofit audit best practices and state and federal law regarding nonprofit operations;
  • Oversee the fiscal department to ensure proper maintenance of all accounting systems and function;
  • Supervise fiscal staff members;
  • Ensure maintenance of appropriate internal controls and financial procedures;
  • Ensure timeliness, accuracy, and usefulness of financial and management reporting for federal and state funders, foundations, and the board of directors;
  • Oversee the preparation and communication of monthly and annual financial statements;
  • Coordinate audits and proper filing of tax returns;
  • Ensure legal and regulatory compliance regarding all financial functions;
  • Oversee the preparation of the annual budget in conjunction with Thrive standards;
  • Represent Thrive to financial partners, including financial institutions, investors, auditors, public officials, etc.
  • Ensure that Grant and Program billing takes place in a timely manner.
  • Oversee the Departments and supervise and provide support to Human Resources, Maintenance, Information Technology, Transportation, and Management of the Front Desks.

Qualifications

Education, Experience and Competencies:

  • Master's degree in accounting, finance, or related discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience. CPA preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressively responsible financial and operational management experience; comprehensive experience in non-profit accounting; computer literacy skills are necessary.

Certifications, Licenses Requirements:

  • Valid driver's license and automobile insurance which meets Rhode Island minimum standards required, or the ability to obtain necessary transportation in order to perform the responsibilities/tasks of the job.
