General Summary:

Vertex has established a research site in the Boston area where research, development, and clinical manufacturing for cell and genetic therapies will be primarily based. Cell and genetic therapies represent two rapidly emerging therapeutic modalities with the potential to treat-and even cure-several of the diseases Vertex is focused on, including sickle cell disease, Duchenne muscular dystrophy and type 1 diabetes. Further investment in a research site specifically designed to advance these programs will be key to Vertex's continued and sustained leadership in these exciting approaches. At Vertex Cell and Genetic Therapies (VCGT) our research teams will bring together the best biology, technologies and enhanced manufacturing capabilities to ensure we bring these cutting-edge transformative therapies to patients as quickly as possible.

The Scheduling and Logistics Manager for the Providence Site is responsible for establishing and maintaining the site schedule (0-to-6-month horizon). This role provides key inputs to site capacity and supply plans. The Scheduling and Logistics Manager will work closely with cross functional teams to project key dates such as sterilization and delivery of devices. The ability to facilitate meetings and collaborate well with multiple teams, while focusing on key details needed to meet program timelines is essential.

This position reports directly to the Associate Director of Materials Management & Planning

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead site scheduling meetings with cross functional team members to align the finite schedule with established plans, identify risks to execution, and communicate key performance indicators. Create, track, and maintain production schedule changes and progress in the planning application to provide visibility to all stakeholders to drive short- and long-term execution plans.
  • Develop and evolve scheduling processes with key stakeholders to ensure harmonization of production, materials, and logistics requirements.
  • Establish change management controls, tracking, and key performance indicators for schedule adherence and logistics functions. Define, measure, and communicate key performance indicators and supportive metrics that track the effectiveness of production planning and manufacturing execution.
  • Be the site point of contact for managing all outbound shipping requirements.
  • Develop, manage, and communicate site capacity plan. Be a key contributor to site supply planning.
  • Assist with the implementation and maintenance of site material scheduling tools.
  • Support with the writing and revision of supply chain related Standard Operations Procedures (SOP).
  • Support quality events and change controls relevant to the Supply Chain and Materials Management functions at the site.
  • Along with other stakeholders' support with the implementation of any new Production Planning System.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Solid foundation in the use of Microsoft Office applications (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Demonstrated experience working with ERP/MRP systems.
  • Foundational understanding of supply chain concepts
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills.
  • Previous experience in manufacturing / scheduling.
  • Experience managing complex schedules and priorities in dynamic environments.
  • Ability to work, influence, and gain consensus across multiple functions (Manufacturing, Quality and Clinical teams).
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Experience working in a cGMP environment.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant discipline (or equivalent experience)
  • Typically requires a minimum of 5 years work experience in supply chain scheduling, planning, or logistics functions.
